How to Switch off Water into the Bathroom Sink

As lessee or a homeowner, it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself before a problem arises so you’re prepared. As an example, you’re at a disadvantage when faced with locating a fuse box go away. As seriously, you want to know how to turn off the water into the bathroom sink immediately before a problem occurs that could result in flood damage. Turning the water off into the bathroom sink and other sinks in the home is generally done at one of three places.

Under the Sink Shutoff Valves

Look under the sink to the two turnoff valves — one per day for the hot and cold water faucets. You may have an integrated cupboard under the sink and the valves are usually located inside.

Grasp the valves with your hands — no tools are needed — and then turn them until they are closed. Do not the valves.

Twist the water faucets to the full on-position and operate the water before it quits.

Basement Main Water Shutoff

Locate the main water source to houses by going directly to the area with a cellar where the washer, dryer and hot water heater are located.

Look for a valve with black or a blue handle and turn it a quarter turn into a flat position to turn off the water. Turn a valve counterclockwise until it’s hand-tight.

Turn on several taps across the house to drain water’s lines and confirm the water shutoff is complete.

Outside Main Water Shutoff

Look at the border of the street before your house for a metal cap over an in-ground box. Remove the cover and set it aside.

Turn off the water with a large adjustable wrench in the event the water turnoff is by turning the valve a quarter 24, really a valve type. Rotate a turnoff counterclockwise to turn off the water.

Verify the water supply and then open the water faucets in bathrooms and the kitchen to drain the water lines is shut off.
